Club Practice Shoot Doddershall 15th February

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 15th February 2015 by shooter15th February 2015

The shoot was at Doddershall in far warmer conditions than the last club practice, and no wind as well.  This made for an enjoyable shoot.  I see Brian and Mark are shooting consistently, Brian with his third 38 score this year and Mark with his second 41 score.

One small issue, if the coffee mugs get larger, or more people come to shoot we will need more hot water. 🙂

Our next shoot is 1st March at Quainton.

SSL 3rd Round clay target shoot hosted by Akeley on 8th February 2015

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 8th February 2015 by shooter19th February 2015

The 3rd round shoot was held at Akeley in reasonable conditions, sun shone, and the wind was not at all strong.  It was though wet underfoot and a few shooters had difficulties extracting their cars from the field.  The two Steves having to receive a little shove to get up onto the road.  Kingswood managed a fifth position, we did though have two ladies contributing to our overall result.  Well done Jenny for winning High Lady.

The over all results club qualifiers where:

Paul (42), Mark (39), Brian (36) Steve C (34) Jenny(34) Jim (30) Adrian (29) Helena (28)

Club practice shoot Quainton 1st February

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 1st February 2015 by shooter1st February 2015

Despite threats of Arctic vortice, snow and general threatening weather, I reckon we got of quite lightly.  Yes it was 3C, and the wind was blowing and it was definitely a touch on the chilly side.  There did seem to be an excessive amount of sheltering behind horse boxes and vans while waiting to shoot.

Seems today was a rabbit practice day, One stand with a rabbit, and a crosser, then we even had a pair of rabbits crossing, one leisurely rabbit crossing from right to left, and then a small spirited rabbit running the other way.

Our next shoot is the SSL at Akely on Sunday 8th.  See you all there.

Club Practice Shoot Doddershall 18th January

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 18th January 2015 by shooter19th January 2015

Our first practice shoot of the year was well attended.  The forecasts of rain, snow and general bad weather proved wrong.  It was a little bit damp underfoot, cold and overcast, though the sun came out at one stage and blinded Jim when he was shooting a high crosser.

SSL 2nd Round clay target shoot hosted by Kingswood at Quainton on 11th January 2015

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 11th January 2015 by shooter20th January 2015
Setting up the Kingswood shoot

Setting up the Kingswood shoot

Kingswood hosted the Sunday Sporting League shoot on Sunday 11th January at our Quainton shooting ground.  The shoot was set up on the Saturday by Jim, Mark and Bob Spademan.  Minor criticism of the previous SSL hosted by Kingswood was that there had been no targets at a distance, they had all been close.  Criticism taken on board, and the shoot was made somewhat more difficult.  There were stands where you had to be quick, many shooters missing all the birds, to prove that they were all hittable I saw Chris Cherry straight that stand.  Yes it was a testing 8 stand shoot with a few comments that the clays were unbreakable.

The weather was kind, during setup on the Saturday it was very windy, luckily the wind had died down a little for the Sunday shoot.  All the traps had to be reset and realigned for the new wind speeds on the Sunday morning.

There was no rain, the ground was still hard despite the previous weeks rain, the sun was shining (not in your eyes).  The catering van had arrived and was operational.  What more could we ask for? Two years ago this shoot had to be suspended when a snow blizzard made the orange clays invisible.  Difficult to hit and impossible to score.

Ready to shoot, 9.34

Ready to shoot, 9.34

The order of results by club were, Crown (272), Akeley (265), Kingswood (253), Nags Head (248), White Lion (242), Marston Marauders (203).  We are now tied 3rd with the Nags Head in the overall results.

Kingswood had success with our Jenny Goss tying with Lisa Luff to High Lady gun with a credible 26 on a demanding shoot.

Kingswood top 8 scores are

Graham Hill (41) Mark Hill (33) Peter Bickmore (31) Steve Cox (31) Geoff Ewers (30) Paul Thomas (30) Jim Goss (29)  Andy Evans (28)

Full results can be read here.

The next SSL shoot is at Akeley on the 8th February.

Club Practice Shoot Doddershall 21st December

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 21st December 2014 by shooter21st December 2014

A good shoot at Doddershall today.  A bit on the chilly side with a strong wind which made some of the targets a little unpredictable on occasion.  Geoff started of straightening the first two stands, continuing on to come out on top.  The look of pleasure on Tony’s face when with some coaching he shot two testing crossing birds in a row.

A reminder that mince pies and other hot festive goodies will be served on 28th December at the Doddershall ground.

I have started a consolidated list of shooting results under events.

Club Practice Shoot Ludgershall 7th December

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 7th December 2014 by shooter13th December 2014

Winter at last seems to have started. The day was cold and windy, we expected it to rain when the lights were turned off by some ominous dark clouds. Luckily the rain held off and we had an enjoyable shoot. I definitely was looking forward to the warmth of home and lunch. We welcomed two new shooters today who joined us for the morning.

SSL 5th Round hosted by Kingswood

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 14th October 2014 by shooter14th October 2014

The 5th round of the Sporting Sunday League was hosted by Kingswood on our Quainton ground.  The Sunday was a good day for shooting. The early morning mist cleared away in plenty of time for the shoot.  All stands operated with out hitch, except for the one stand which was temporarily disabled when a spent cartridge jammed the automatic trap. Despite shooting on our home ground, Kingswood ended up in sixth position.

Roger Phillips Memorial Trophy Shoot

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 1st October 2014 by shooter1st October 2014
The two Steve's

The two Steves

The roger Phillips Memorial Trophy shoot was held at our Quainton ground on a lovely sunny morning on the 21st September.  The shoot was set up using the embankment to its best advantage.  We shot 3 stands of 10 and moved the cages to allow us to shoot the same stands from a different vantage points.  The rabbit stand was definitely a super charged rabbit which bounded high into the air as the trigger was squeezed.  One shooter saw their rabbit disappear into an oak tree never to reappear.

The Trophy shoot is a handicap shoot and was won by Steve B, mainly the result of his tactical shooting during the practice shoots.

Handicap Scores Total
Adrian T 12 34 46
Andy Evans 0 43 43
Helena 4 33 37
Jennifer 12 31 43
