League Shoot 14th May

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 17th May 2017 by shooter17th May 2017

On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone who attended the Kingswood leg of the League. It was very well attended and great fun – tricky traps again Brian!!!

Special thanks go to those who gave up some of their Saturday to help set up the traps and stands, also those who helped fill the traps before the shoot and those who stayed behind afterwards to help clear everything away. Many hands make light work.

As agreed on Sunday, there will be a practice shoot at Doddershall this Sunday – I know that it is the League final and I hope that many members will attend.

Practice Shoot at Doddershall and Welsh Shoot – 7th May

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 8th May 2017 by shooter10th May 2017

Club Shoot

I hope that everyone had a good day in Wales, we certainly had a great and successful practice at Doddershall.

Many thanks to Brian, Dawn, Todd and Celia for setting up – it was all done when I arrived and I wasn’t late!!!! Also many thanks to Dawn and Brian for supplying the refreshments.

We welcomed Kim, Nick, Phil Goff and Jack Fisher as guests and hope that they enjoyed the morning.

Scores as follows:-

Phil 46
Todd 45

Welsh Shoot

There was a large contingent travelling to Wales with nearly 20 from Kingswood participating. We were met with a cloudy sky.  This soon broke and we had a lovely warm shoot in the quarry.  Tony H mentioned that in the 25 years plus he had been travelling to the Welsh shoot, it had only rained once, and that was a light drizzle.

The shoot staged by St Brides was quite demanding, with many who score 75% at our normal shoots struggling to score 50%.  The Welsh only managed to do a little better.  From the 10 highest scores from each team, we were only 20 points behind on the first leg.  All to play for in the return match.

Missing from the shoot this year was the high crossing pair from the top of the quarry.  Something of a relief!!

As was usual we ate lunch at the Fox and Hounds in St Brides Major.

Practice shoot at Doddershall – 2th April 2017

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 3rd April 2017 by shooter3rd April 2017

A very pleasant Sunday morning club shoot was held at Doddershall.  Weather was warm, and no strong winds. New born spring lambs were in the fields. We had five stands set up, and a training stand for a group of novices.  The five practice stands were a mixture of demanding and not so demanding.  We had twenty club members shooting and a couple guests.  There was also the training stand where Mark was teaching a group of beginners.  If you want to learn to shoot clays, please contact the secretary or chairman and we will make sure there is a training stand for you.

For those of you who want to go to Wales on the 7th May I need to know  numbers by Wednesday.

For those of you who want to go to Wales on the 7th May we need to know  numbers by Wednesday, so please contact Jennifer.

Roger Philips Memorial Shoot -19th March 2017

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 19th March 2017 by shooter29th March 2017

An enjoyable shoot at Drayton Parslow, although a little windy which made the targets very sporting. Congratulations to James who takes the Trophy home.

League Shoot at Marston – 12th March 2017

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 12th March 2017 by shooter29th March 2017

Marston always puts on a good league shoot and we greatly enjoyed the shoot.  The scores were generally high and Kingswood managed a very respectable score with Adrian and Barry breaking 44 clays each to come third equal behind Chris Cherry (Crown) and  Chris Davis (Akeley). Not a bad result.

Practice shoot at Doddershall – 5th March 2017

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 5th March 2017 by shooter5th March 2017

Despite a rather inauspicious start to the day, rain (I had been constantly looking for the email announcing the cancellation of the shoot), a reasonable number of members attended the shoot.   The ground was saturated from the rain during the last few days. The rain stopped by 10, and the sun came out.  The wind did rise, resulting in some unpredictable flight patterns taken by the targets.  Brian set up a couple of stands with a demanding target.  Thankfully the other target on the stand was easier.  We must thank Ann for the Lemon Drizzle cake and cookies.

Practice shoot at Quainton – 19th February

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 19th February 2017 by shooter19th February 2017

Wow, what a difference a week makes with the weather.  It was almost short sleeve weather today at Quainton. No rain, light wind, and the sun threatening to shine. A good mix of targets had been setup by Brain and Dawn from DB Guns of Thame.  There were 21 shooters in the practice shoot, plus some beginners. We had a beginner stand with Mark Hill providing tuition.  Beginners are welcome to come and try shooting.   Please let us know before coming, we can then ensure we have a coach and stand available for beginners.

League shoot at Akeley, 12th February 2017

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 12th February 2017 by shooter19th February 2017

Miserable cold day for a shoot, with sleet and rain.  Parking was restricted to the road because of the wet field.  The shoot was the usual layout we have come to expect from Akeley.  Some contention about the scoring with another 52 bird shoot.

Despite the rubbish weather we managed to field the required number of shooters.  Results will be posted when I receive them.

Practice shoot at Doddershall, 4th February 2017

Kingswood Gun Club Posted on 5th February 2017 by shooter5th February 2017

We had a great turnout today at the Doddershall ground with 26 shooting.  The day was cloudy, dry and cool.  No wind, to disturb the clays, and no sun in our eyes.  The mini trap was out again, practicing for the Welsh shoot. We shot round in four squads to reduce the waiting time.  There though was an unavoidable delay at 11 when a group of joggers passed through the shooting ground.  This was known about before hand, so tea and coffee were served as we gave encouragement to the runners.  I think we all enjoyed the shoot. Some new faces as well.  We must congratulate Mark H on his practice with the rabbit target.  Fifty cartridges and two targets hit!

Next week there is the League shoot at Akeley.  Everybody is encouraged to attend, fifty bird shoot for £10 and all ready set up for us.   The following week the club meeting is at Quainton.
