Scores from today, a bit harder set up than usually.

Mark does a stirling job in setting up and taking down the shoots which we must all be extremely thankful for. If members assist and set up the shoots as well they should also be thanked. If the shoot isn’t to your liking then please assist at the next one so that you can then set one up that is more suited to your style. It’s very easy to complain or moan but do nothing to rectify the situation. This has a negative effect on the people who do volunteer to help set it all up prior to us actually shooting the layout.

Challenging shoot this week but a glorious day to enjoy it on!

If we could have a few more people arriving a little earlier (8-830am) to help with set up, we would be able to sense check the targets with fresh eyes to assist in setting up for wider range of shooting experience

Great to see you today and I  just wanted to say a big thank you for all the support in setting up and packing away. It makes all the difference with more hands and also gives the option for others to have an input on the setup. I did find a plastic wad in the field which could have come from a previous shoot, but just a reminder that it is fibre wads only.

Fantastic turn out today which makes it so much more worthwhile to those who put the effort in setting it up. Looks like we also missed the rain which was a bonus! Please can I remind everyone that they need to leave the traps until someone who is experienced has disarms them before they are moved. We had two traps still armed when they were being put into the trailer.

Practice Shoot Doddershall 15th June 2025

The scheduled practice shoot was moved from Ludgershall to Doddershall. We can’t shoot Ludgershall until the grass has been cut.

Thanks to Mark H for layout and to everyone that was able to help with set up and break down, everyone is welcome (and encouraged!) to pitch in as much as they can to help share the workload and support a smoothly run shoot.

As per reminder from Mark, please don’t touch traps unless you know how to safely disarm, to ensure that they are moved/stowed safely – guidance can be provided for those wishing to learn.

Practice Shoot Doddershall 6th April 2025

The weather has continued to be dry, making this the first shoot in a long time where I could walk on the ground without wellies. The prolonged dry spell has already led to calls for rain from the farming community. Today was my first time arriving on site at 8:00 am to help with the setup, which I found surprisingly fun and instructive. The good weather definitely made it enjoyable, and I have great respect for those who set up on cold, wet, and dark mid-winter mornings. We shot our usual five stands, but this time, due to the number of shooters, we had a sixth stand ready. Unfortunately, one trap malfunctioned, causing one stand to have a following bird for the second target.

Just a reminder, the next Sunday shoot has been cancelled and is being replaced by our Good Friday shoot, which will include a fish and chip lunch in Ludgershall village hall.
